Why can't AI Proofread for me?
AI has its own unique writing style. When it edits your work, it edits according to its voice, not yours. People today have a high value for human creativity, and they notice when something is written—or edited—with AI. You don’t want your audience to accuse you of writing with AI. Your voice is unique and treasured. It is your expression of the creativity of God in you. Allowing AI to edit your work robs your work of your voice.
Can AI catch spelling and grammatical errors? Sure, but not all of them. Even a spellchecker for a word processor makes mistakes. While writing this, MS Word’s spellcheck missed a bunch of my errors and made suggestions at things that weren’t errors. AI likely also won’t catch story and style inconsistencies, chronology issues, or plagiarism (which it itself has been accused of). Speaking of, did you know that when you put your work into AI, you could be helping train it? It’s possible that someone else could ask AI to write on the same topic you wrote on, and the AI could spit out your ideas calling them its own. Yikes!
